The Builders was shot and recorded within the vast underground storage tanks formerly concealed beside the Tate Modern’s popular Turbine Hall.
Next to this cultural icon, The area now being developed into Tate Modern2, they were a parallel post-industrial world; empty and barren save for the pervasive sound of the remaining turbines.
Inter-cut shots of the turbines, a post card English cottage and dripping water, preface a male figure pacing within rows of metal columns. Sudden twists and convulsive movements interrupt his pacing as he voices animalistic sounds, of growing pitch and intensity.
The feral vocalist is played by Phil Minton.
